Meet a freshwater shrimp, a type of Amphipod. Amphipods are found all over the world with some 1,900 freshwater species and over 8,000 marine species. Commonly called Scuds or Sideswimmers, these crustaceans are a critical part of the food chain and are bioindicators of ecosystem health. You can find them in just about any body of water, and are easy to spot from the shoreline with a net and water bucket.
